Blocked Toilets for Lidcombe Homes

Lidcombe's toilet call-outs tend to fall into two camps, and the property type usually tells us which before we've even opened the toolbag.

Detached and semi-detached houses further from the station, including plenty around Nicholas Street, still carry the older single-connection pan fittings that came with the original build. Paper and wipes narrow that connection gradually, so the same toilet can block more than once over a few years.

The newer unit stock closer to the station is a different animal. Several bathrooms often share one stack, so what looks like your toilet's problem can actually be a line further down that a neighbour's flush is adding to as well.

Streets like Nicholas Street still have plenty of houses running that original narrower pan connection. A repeat blockage there is worth a camera check rather than a third clear in the same spot, and we'll say so rather than quietly repeat a fix that isn't holding.

Either way, the price lands in writing before anyone picks up a tool, and it doesn't move once we're partway through the job.

A plunger genuinely clears plenty of simple blockages, and there's no reason to skip it before ringing anyone. A few firm attempts with a decent seal around the outlet is a fair first move.

Where it stops being a DIY job is once a plunger's had a proper go and nothing's changed, or the same toilet has already blocked more than once this month. Pushing harder, or pouring anything caustic down the bowl to force it, tends to do more damage than the original blockage.

That's also the point where NSW law draws the line anyway. Anything beyond the fixture itself, the actual waste pipe or the connection behind the pan, is licensed drainage work, not something to keep trying alone.

It's a small job by our standards, and small jobs are exactly the ones that get squeezed into an already-busy run around Lidcombe rather than pushed to next week.
